The GS Alternative Arts & Culture calendar has been in full swing for 2010, Here’s what we’ve been up to in store & out & about.
In February we hosted a Valentines Weekend – alternative celebrant, Fiona King performed ‘A Year & A Day’ handfasting ceremonies in the store window and played celtic harp for the street while Cupid’s bbq was lit on the pavement outside sending Love Spells on their way.
Cult of Scent perfumier, Jocelyn Fullerton launched another three stunning perfumes in her Serpentine range – ‘Fire Amber Baby’, ‘The Emperor’s New Scent’ and ‘Serendipity on the Rocks’.
In March we were honoured to be invited to costume ‘Vampire Stories’, the new Slide Cabaret show with legendary costumier, Shane. The show has been experiencing rave reviews and full house audiences since it opened.
In April we had our ‘Steam – An Afternoon of Steam punk Devices’ with steam punk afficiando Dij Dijor and special guests urbandon, Kevin Mason & Richard Hawkins. Mr Gasmask & Associates set up a diesel punk military stall outside the shop on the bus seat & a great day was had by all with demonstrations and ‘how to’ advice & inspiration for steampunk device builders.
In June we have ‘An afternoon Journey into the strange & wonderous history of corsetry’ with corsetiere extraordinaire, Gretchen O’Riordan. This event will take place in our salon dressing room on June 14th, between 4pm and 5.30pm.
On the fashion show front we did a fashion show at ‘Le Chat Noir’ in Canberra. This club is one of a kind, lush, intimate and buzzing. And of course we’re looking forward to Lunarmorph – the Alternative Fashion Show!
The other major events for Serpentine will be LUNARMORPH & The Steampunk Symposium on Sat. 11th Sept., The Fetish Night Markets on Friday 1st October (an Uber event), a mini fashion show at the Clarence Hotel as part of ‘The Gathering’ on Sat. 2nd Oct. & then Under the Blue Moon Festival on Saturday 30th October
